SISLER, H.R.
In memory of Mr. H.R. SISLER, who passed away April 25, 1937.
Father, you are gone away from us,
But you just seem near somehow;
How 'oft we've longed to see you
And to kiss you wrinkled brow.
The home seems sad and lonely,
And you chair is left unfilled;
But God called in his Glory,
And his calls are all fulfilled.
You left us sad and tearful,
When you left us all that day;
But we never will forget you,
Though God has taken you away.
Written by his granddaughter, Laurine SISLER.
bt
(It's my guess that H.R. was actually Horace Resley to start with.
There was a real Horace Resley who was a very prominent attorney
and one time clerk of the court in Allegany County, about the
time this Mr. Sisler was born. Many of my ancestors named a son
Horace Resley whatever, after they'd done business with the attorney.

Same person but a lot more history.
William Edgar STANTON, 71, died suddenly about 4:30 o'clock Monday
morning, January 19, 1942, of a heart attack. He became ill about
3 a.m., and died a few minutes before a physician arrived. He
had suffered from a heart ailment for several years but had seemed
much improved. A slight attack occurred a few weeks ago, but was
not considered alarming, and he apparently had recovered sufficiently
to be out. He attended church Sunday morning, chatted with friends
and called upon his neighbor, and seemed to feel exceptionally
well. His sudden death came as a distinct shock to his family
and friends.
Mr. STANTON was one of Grantsville's most substantial citizens
and was held in the highest esteem by all who know him. The task
of writing a fitting obituary for this highly respected gentleman
is a difficult one as mere words do not seem sufficient to express
his splendid character and his outstanding place in the community.
He was widely known throughout this section. His grandfather founded
"Stanton's Mill" at Little Crossings and was in turn
succeeded by his son, Eli STANTON, (W. E. STANTON's father) who
conducted the business for many years. Upon his graduation from
the Paughkeepsie Business School at Paughkeepsie, N. Y., W. E.
STANTON entered the business in partnership with his father, and
after a few years took over its ownership. He has successfully
conducted the establishment since 1909. For the past few years
he has been assisted by his son, Edgar V. STANTON, and son-in-law,
Bryon H. BENDER. For a number of years Mr. STANTON also served
on the Board of Directors of the former First National Bank of
Grantsville, and for six years held the office of vice-president.
In addition to his interest in the affairs of his community, he
also took an active part in the work of St. John's Evangelical
and Reformed Church, of which he was a life-long member. He had
been an officer in the organization for years, first as Deacon,
and later as Elder, which office he has held for the past twenty
years. Until the time of his death he was actively interested
in the work of the Consistory Board of the church, of which he
was also a member. He was always willing to cooperate with his
fellows and a generous contributor to any cause he felt to be
just and worthy. A sizable donation to the present Red Cross campaign,
a few days ago, was possibly his last contribution. The congregation
to which he belonged, as well as the entire community owes him
much for his ardent support and his loss will be felt keenly,
not only by his bereaved family, but by the entire community.
Mr. STANTON was born September 28, 1870, a son of the late Eli
and Harriett Broadwater STANTON, and was the third of five children.
In September 1897 he married Miss Rebecca VAN SICKEL, of Somerfield.
They were the parents of five children. A daughter, Lillian, died
at the age of three months. In addition to their mother, the following
children survive. Mrs. Bryon H. BENDER, Mrs. Lena S. BENDER and
Edgar V. STANTON, Grantsville, and Mrs. Stanton FUNK, Washington,
