PALMER, HENRY CHAMPION
Henry Champion PALMER, 83, died at the National Hotel (Grantsville),
Monday morning at 9 o'clock after a brief illness. He was born
March 24, 1859, at Mushoppen, Pa., and had been a railroad engineer
for thirty-seven years, first on the Lehi Valley Road, then at
Jenningston, W. Va., for the Jennings brothers. He was transferred
to Jennings, Md., in 1912, and worked there till he retired a
few years ago. He was twice married, a daughter, Mrs. Hattie RUNYON,
Jonestown, Pa., survives of the first marriage, also a son Howard
PALMER, Joneston, Pa., three daughters survive of the second marriage,
Mrs. Gladys WILT, Jennings, Mrs. Joan YOMMER, Grantsville and
Miss Bertha PALMER, Mtn. Lake, also three step-daughters and two
step-sons, one brother, Elmer PALMER of Murray Mines, Pa., 19
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

PARKER
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Annabel PARKER, wife of Mr.
Howard H. PARKER, of Mogolion, New Mexico, were held at the home
of her sister, Mrs. Edward P. KAHL, at Mt. Lake Park, Md., on
Monday afternoon, Dec. 5th at 2:00 p. m.
The services were conducted by the Reverend David C. TRIMBLE,
of Oakland, Md., assisted by the Reverend Harold A. GAMBLIN of
Mt. Lake Park, Md. Special music was rendered by the choir of
the Mt. Lake Park Methodist Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Parker was aged 50 years, 4 months and 8 days. She was a
daughter of the late Henry and Caroline HALL MANN of Mt. Lake
Park, Md.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Howard H. PARKER, of Mogolion,
New Mexico, one sister, Mrs. Edward P. KAHL of Mt. Lake Park,
Md.; and one brother, Mr. Milburn W. MANN, of Oakland, Md.
Pallbearers were John N. MICHAEL, Glenn CUPPETT, Harry C. TURNEY,
Alva G. GORTNER, Albert W. KAHL and Arthur LAWTON.
Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery.

PATTON, ROY C.
Funeral services for Roy C. PATTON were held Thursday morning
from the Lutheran Church, with Rev. Samuel D. Sigler, Pastor,
officiating. A choir from the church sang several hymns. Pallbearers
were Leonard B. SCHAEFER, Emerson SEBOLD, Joel A. BEACHY, Charles
O. BENDER, Elmer MILLER and Daniel KLOTZ. Interment was in the
Grantsville cemetery. Mr. Patton died at his home early Saturday
evening, March 7th, after an extended illness. He was fifty-three.

Miss Almira PAUGH
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the Kurtz
Chapel Church near Deer Park for Miss Almira PAUGH, 78, who died
Saturday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Charles TASKER, near
Deer Park. The Rev. J. E. JOHNSON of Oakland, was in charge, assisted
by the Rev. P. P. SNYDER. Interment was in the TASKER Cemetery.
Miss PAUGH was a daughter of the late James E. and Elizabeth ENLOW
PAUGH and was born May 4, 1859 in this county. She was a member
of the U. B. Church at Bethlehem, near Deer Park. Surviving are
two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Harriet HARVERY, of Kitzmiller;
Mrs. Charles TASKER of Deer Park; Isaac A. PAUGH, of near Dodge
School House; Benjamin F. PAUGH of Loch Lynn and Robert E. PAUGH,

PAUGH
Benjamin F. PAUGH, aged 76, of Loch Lynn Heights, died at his
home Wednesday. His death due to a stroke of paralysis which he
sustained two weeks ago.
He was a son of the late James EDWARD and Isabel ENLOW PAUGH, and was born in this county March 1, 1863. He had lived in Loch Lynn for sixteen years, and prior to that time resided on a farm at Dodge, four miles north of Oakland, for thirty-four years. He had been a member of the Methodist church at Dodge for fifty years.
Surviving are his widow, Hester Ann WHITE
PAUGH, and five children, Murray PAUGH and Ray PAUGH, Mt. Lake
Park; Guy PAUGH, Oakland; Mrs. Mary KIFER, Cumberland; and Claude
PAUGH, Cleveland, O.; also two brothers and two sisters, Allen
PAUGH, Robert PAUGH and Mrs. Victoria TASKER, of Deer Park; and
Mrs. Harriet HARVEY, Kitzmiller; 18 grandchildren and one great
grandchild.

Columbus Lafayette PAUGH
Columbus Lafayette PAUGH passed away at his home near Deep Creek
Lake, March 10, 1936. He was 82 years, 2 months, and 17 days,
a resident of Deer Park practically all his life. He was a school
teacher and later a farmer. Funeral services were held at his
residence Thursday, Rev. Archibald MOORE officiating, followed
by interment in the Oakland Cemetery. He was a son of James E.
PAUGH and Isabel, daughter of Jeremiah ENLOW. Survivors include:
his wife, Mary L. MOON; children: Wm. O. U., James V., Daisy M.,
Mrs. Lois SCHENKBOY, Auburn, all of Deer Park, Mrs. Emma KIMMEL,
of Brocksville, PA. and R. Scott; six brothers and sisters: Isaac
A. , Mrs. Harriet HARVEY, Almira, Benjamin F., Robert E., and
Mrs. Victoria TASKER, all residents of this county. He was originally
a member of the United Brethren Church and then transferred to
become an active member of the M. E. Church at Thayerville, some
years ago. The PAUGH family was among the earliest settlers of
what is now Garrett County; Michael and Johannes (John) PAUGH
were listed as settlers East of the Great Backbone when the military
lots were surveyed in 1787. They came from Virginia. Mb
PAUGH, HAROLD WILSON
Harold Wilson PAUGH died at his home in Ralph, Pa., Friday evening.
He was born June 9, 1903 at Oakland, Md. He was a member of the
Teamsters and Chauffeurs Local 491 of Uniontown. He was a son
of the late James and Victoria PAUGH. Surviving are his widow,
Mary Fabian PAUGH, two daughters, a brother and two sisters.

Isaac PAUGH
Isaac PAUGH, aged 74, unmarried, died at the home of his nephew,
Oliver PAUGH, Sunday evening, of pneumonia. A sister, Miss Rebecca
PAUGH, died suddenly of a heart attack on March 17th. Mr. PAUGH
had worked for a number of years on the farm of his father, Nicholas
PAUGH. He is survived by two brothers, Presley PAUGH, near Swanton,
MD and Hughie PAUGH, Davis, W. VA. and one sister, Mrs. Sarah
Ann WILSON, Pierce, W. VA. Funeral services were held Wednesday
at 2 p.m. from the Bloomington Methodist Episcopal Church with
interment in the Bloomington Cemetery, Garland HOWARD, Pastor,

PAUGH
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth PAUGH, 75, widow of Thompson C. PAUGH, died
Wednesday at
3 p. m., at the home of her brother-in-law, Stewart PAUGH at Swanton,
with whom she had been residing. She had no other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday
at 2 p. m., in the North Glade M. E. church, near Swanton, with
Rev. FRAKER in charge. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery
in the North Glade section.

April 15, 1937
Nicholas PAVLICK died at his home here Saturday, April 10th, after
a long illness. He was 46 years old. Mr. PAVLICK was born in Australia
in 1891 and came to America some thirty years ago. He and Mrs.
PAVLICK, who is also a native of Australia, were married in America
about twenty-two years ago. Mr. PAVLICK was retired from McKeesport
Steel Mills after twenty-five years. About four years after his
retirement they established their residence in Grantsville. He
is survived by his wife, a nephew in Duquesne, PA., and a niece
in McKeesport, PA. Interment was in the Portview Catholic Cemetery
at McKeesport, PA. Mb

Caroline PECK
Caroline PECK, the infant daughter of Paul J. and Lola PECK, died
Sunday, November 29th, of pneumonia. She was only 1* month old.
Mr. and Mrs. PECK live on Negro Mountain a few miles from Grantsville.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday and interment was in
the Maple Glen Cemetery. Mb

Margaret PENDERGAST
Mrs. Margaret PENDERGAST died this morning at her home in Hutton.
A daughter of the late John and Theresa SHAEFFER, she was born
February 22, 1852 in Germany.
Survivors include six sons: Joe and William of Hutton; John of
Corinth; Edward H. of Piedmont; Thomas and Jerry of Baltimore;
three daughters: Mary, Annie and Agnes, all of Baltimore; one
sister, Mrs. Annie ECKELTON of Baltimore, forty-five grandchildren
and sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Rev. Father SAUER will officiate.
Interment in the Catholic Cemetery in Oakland. Mb
Mrs. Daniel PETERSHEIM, of Gortner, was
born Sept. 2nd, 1888, died Dec. 11, 1936, of pneumonia and complications.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, Allen, age 16, Henry,
age 12 and Floyd, age 8, an adopted daughter, Carrie WILES and
adopted son, Walter WILES of Millersburg, Ohio, one son Harvey,
preceded her 18 years ago. Mrs. PETERSHEIM is also survived by
her parents, MR. and Mrs. D. J. SWARTZENTRUBER, one sister, Mrs.
Henry E. YODER and three brothers, Simon, Jacob and Harvey SWARTZENTRUBER,
all of Gortner. The funeral was conducted at home on Sunday afternoon
by Pastors Cornelius BEACHY, of Ohio, an uncle, and Eli BEACHY,
of Illinois, a cousin of the deceased. The pallbearers were Messrs.
Noah and Simon BEACHY, of Arthur, Ill., Noah SCHROCK, Noah BEACHY,
Noah LICHTY and Noah YODER, of Gortner. Interment in the Union
Church Cemetery

kind work and deeds will be long remembered.

GEORGE BERKELEY PEW, 80, died last Friday night, May 29, at his
home in Kitzmiller. He had been ill since October.
Born May 1, 1873, in Kitzmiller, MR PEW was a son of the late
WINFIELD SCOTT and SUSAN KITZMILLER PEW. He was twice married
and both wives MRS MARY STELLA WILLIAMS PEW and MRS ALICE PHENICIE
PEW, preceded him in death.
MR PEW was employed as a collector by the Chesapeake and Potomac
Telephone company, the Cumberland and Allegheny Gas Company and
the Western Maryland Power company.
Surviving are a daughter, MRS THELMA BELL, Mt Lake Park: a son
GEORGE B PEW, Kitzmiller; one sister, MRS MYRTLE WILSON, also
of Kitzmiller; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at 11 o'clock from
the home, with REV JONATHAN EDWARDS, pastor of the Kitzmiller
Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was in the IOOF cemetary

MRS SOPHRONIA PIFER, wife of JOHN PIFER, was born January 11,
1860 and died January 10, 1936. She was aged 76 years, 11 months
and 30 days. Her childhood was spent in Crellin. Funeral services
were conducted Monday morning. January 13th,. REV TRIMBLE officiated.

POLING, MRS. JOHN
Funeral rites for Mrs. John W. POLING, 56, of near Table Rock,
who died in the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Sunday morning,
where she had undergone an operation for goiter, were held yesterday
from the Fairview church, near Gormania, W.Va., with interment
in the Fairview cemetery. Her husband, seven sons and two daughters,
J.W. POLING, Detroit, Mich., Herman POLING, the United States
Marines stationed at New River, N.C., Paul D. POLING, B.M. POLING,
George H. POLING, Clarence F. POLING, Fred A. POLING and Twila
Catherine POLING, all at home; and Mrs. Mollie Mae GIBBS, Detroit.
She is also survived by seven brothers and one sister.

POLLOCK
Mrs. Harriett FAIRALL POLLOCK, 70, widow of James L. POLLACK,
Sr., died Sunday evening about 9:30 o'clock as the result of a
heart attack, at the home of her son, James L. POLLOCK, Jr., Second
Street.
A daughter of the late Dr. Edward H. and Harriett FAIRALL BARTLETT,
she was born in Oakland April 3, 1872. She spent her entire lifetime
in this community.
Mrs. POLLACK was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal church, president
of St. Matthew's guild for a number of years, having charge of
the annual lawn fetes for many of those years. She was a former
president of the Civic club and was a member of the Daughters
of the American Revolution.
Surviving are two sons, Edward B. POLLOCK, Philadelphia, Pa.;
and James L. POLLOCK, Oakland; also seven grandchildren; three
sisters and one brother, Miss Carrie BARTLETT, Mrs. W. L. GIBSON,
Mrs. Gracia HINEBAUGH, Harper BARTLETT, all of Oakland. Her husband
died eight months ago.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday in St. Matthew's church
with the Rev. H. Kearney JONES, rector, officiating. Interment
will be in Oakland cemetery.

POOL
Mrs. Evaline HAMILL POOL, daughter of Henry and Julia Anne HAMILL,
died at her home in Kitzmiller, Md., Wednesday evening, June 17th
after a short illness.
Mrs. POOL was born on the old HAMILL farm near Kitzmiller, March
26, 1856. She was married 1889 to William H. POOL of Kitzmiller;
Mr. POOL having preceded her in death by a number of years.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Rebecca R. HUTSON, one brother,
Mr. E. J. HAMILL, both of Kitzmiller, Md., and numerous nephews
and nieces.
Mrs. POOL was a member of the M. E. Church South but due to the
absence of her Minister funeral services were conducted from the
Presbyterian Church, Kitzmiller, by the Rev. PARKER, assisted
by Rev. CARLSON and Rev. Grover POOL, the latter a nephew of the
deceased.
The pallbearers were D. W. WALKER, Sr., J. A. SHORE, Russell FEICTNER,
Henry POOL, Jesse WALKER and Frank VODOPIVIC. The flower bearers
were Mrs. May ARNOLD, Mrs. Lulu KINKAID, Mrs. Wanda Mae ARNOLD,
Mrs. June O'DONNEL, Messrs. Jack HUTSON, Wilson POOL, and Joe
VODOPIVIC.
Deceased was a member of the Rebecca Lodge.

George Albert PORTER (12/1/1938)
Funeral services for the late George Albert PORTER were held at
the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul B. NAYLOR, Tuesday afternoon
at 4 o'clock with the Rev. W. S. PATTERSON officiating. The Following
day the body was removed to Homewood Crematory, Pittsburgh, Pa.,
for cremation, a request of Mr. PORTER.
Mr. PORTER, who would have been 80 years old had he lived to February
10th, died in the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where he had
been a patient following an illness of three weeks or more. He
was a son of the late Samuel and Mary (BARNES) PORTER and was
born in Luzerne County, Pa., February 10, 1859. For a number of
years he was employed by the Kendall Lumber Company, who had extensive
lumber operations at Crellin, this county. Following his wife's
death in 1922 he went to California and lived; returning here
two years ago and during the time lived with his daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. NAYLOR.
Surviving are four children: Mrs. Paul B. NAYLOR, Oakland; Miss
Mary PORTER; Dr. Harry W. PORTER, Jacksonville, Florida; and Robert
PORTER, San Francisco, Cal.; two brothers, William F. PORTER,
Miami, Fla.; and Harry W. PORTER, Bronx, N. Y.: and two sisters,
Mrs. Emma NOGLE, Brooklyn, N. Y.; and Mrs. Mattie STEEN, New York
City, and one grandchild.
Honorary pall bearers were: A. D. NAYLOR, C. W. REAM, F. A. THAYER,
Ralph WEBER, A. C. WINTERS, Clyde ELLIS, William HAUSER, Somers
McCRUM, and Robert HANLIN.

POWERS
Final rites for Mrs. Evelyn Marie POWERS, 25, who died on Friday
last at her home in Baltimore following a brief illness, were
held Monday at the Bolden Funeral Home, with interment in the
Thayerville cemetery.
She was a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth BROOKS and a native
of Parsons, W. Va. She is survived by two brothers, Clifford and
Glen, of Cumberland and three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle THAYER, Oakland;
Gertrude BROOKS, Cumberland; and Betty BROOKS, Baltimore.

Mrs. Jenny PYLE PRITTS was born August 15, 1853 and departed this
life on April 12, 1936, age 83 years, 7 months and 27 days. She
was untied in marriage to Aaron PRITTS, January 2, 1873. To this
union were born 11 children, ten of which are still living. Her
husband preceded her in death 28 years ago and her oldest son,
John, preceded her by 5 months.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church for the past 60 years.
