MERLIN M. "BUCK" MALLOW, 60, Petersburg,
WV, died Oct. 22, 1994, at the Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Born Feb. 18, 1934, at Cabins, WV, he was a son of Verda R. (KEPLINGER)
MALLOW, Cabins, and the late Granville T. MALLOW. An infant son,
John H. MALLOW, preceded him in death. He was employed by Pace
Pipeline Company, Greensburg, PA. He was a member of Petersburg
First Baptist Church, and the Heavy Equipment Union #1058, Pittsburgh.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary Frances
(MICHAELS) MALLOW; two sons, Ricky Allen MALLOW SR., Petersburg,
and Phillip Ray MALLOW, Glen Burnie; two sisters Betty GOLDIZEN,
Cabins, and Mae HEBERLIG, Moorefield, WV; two brothers, Arvel
MALLOW, Cabins, and Ervin MALLOW, Maysville; four grandchildren;
one great-grandson; one step-granddaughter.
Service was conducted at the Petersburg First Baptist Church,
with the Rev. Robert Keaton officiating. Interment was in Mt.
Hebron Cemetery, Maysville. - pt
BETTIE J. (REXRODE) MARKOVICH, 75, Oakland,
died July 21, 1997, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Sept. 17, 1922, in Deer Park, she was the daughter of the
late Albert and Etta (HARDESTY) REXRODE. She was Lutheran by faith.
Body was donated to science. Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, was
in charge of the arrangements. - pt
JAMES MARONEY, 67, found dead at home, from
a heart attack. Service was held in St. Peter's Catholic Church,
with Rev. Father Rauth officiating. Burial was made in the local
cemetery.

LEILA SPEICHER MARRA, 83, of Accident, died
March 6, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland. Born
March 25, 1913, in Friendsville, she was a daughter of the late
Charles and Nellie (KLINE) RODGERS. Clayton SPIECHER, her first
husband, died in 1977. She was a member of the Bear Creek Church
of the Brethren, where she was a pianist, organist and member
of the choir as well as the ladies group.
She is survived by her husband, Ted MARRA; two sons, Bill SPEICHER,
Austin, Texas, and Tom SPEICHER, Denver, Colorado; two daughters,
Beverly KLINE, Middletown, and Mary Ellen RADER, Wilmington, NC;
two sisters, Phyllis STEELE, Green Lawn, Long Island, NY and Pauline
KNIERIEM, Wheeling, WV; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Viewing was at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, services will
be conducted at the Bear Creek Church of the Brethren with the
Rev. William Shimmer officiating. Interment will be in the church

VIVIAN RUTH (PAUGH) MARSHALL, 73, Charlotte,
NC, died Nov. 7, 1995, at American Transitional Health Care. Born
April 15, 1922, in Garrett County. Lynn Keith MARSHALL, her husband,
preceded her in death May 1981. She was a member of the Grace
United Methodist Church and the Amazing Graces of the church.
She graduated from Oakland High School in 1939, and the University
of Idaho, with a B. S. degree in education in 1953. In 1973 she
graduated from UNCC, with a master's degree. She was a retired
elementary school teacher and had served in the Women's Army Corps
during World War II.
Surviving are her husband, Allan D. MARSHALL: three daughters,
Phyllis Louise HERRIN, Troy, Michigan, Constance Ruth THOMPSON
and Ramona Anne GRAVES, both of Charlotte; three brothers, Junior
Keith PAUGH and Howard Michael PAUGH, both of Baltimore and Eugene
Mason PAUGH, Deer Park; five sisters, Juanita Roberta JOHNSON,
Melbourne, FL, Rebecca Jane COMP, Josephine Marian ZMIJEWSKI,
and Frances Modesta EVERHART, all of Baltimore and Dixie Joyce
TENNOW, Walnut Creek, CA; and four grandchildren.
McEwen Funeral Home, Charlotte, received friends with services
held at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kathie Clontz
Sherrill and the Rev. Lloyd Pendergraph officiating. Interment

WILSON MASON, 60, died at his home at Jennings,
March 31, after an illness of several months. He was a native
of Garrett County. About 39 years ago he married Eliza Jane BURKHOLDER,
who with their ten children survives, also two half sisters and
a half brother.
Services were held from the Jennings Lutheran Church, with Rev.
A. C. Curran, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Bittinger
cemetery at Bear Hill.

STEPHEN G. V. MATTINGLY, formerly of Hoyes
and Mt. Lake Park, MD, died at his home in Hollywood, CA, July
18, 1936, aged 67 years, 9 months and 18 days.

three sons, Montie C., James Edward, George Ivan and two daughters,

VERA HELEN MAY - Aged 42, the daughter of
Mrs. Mary MAY and the late Chas. S. MAY of Mt. Lake Park, died
at her home Tuesday, following an illness of about two years.
Survived by: her mother, four brothers, Harry and Arden, of Washington,
D. C.; Dewey, of Cumberland, and Garthright, at home; and two
sisters, Mrs. Emroy BOLDEN, Oakland and Mrs. Flora JONES, Washington.
Services: From her late residence with Rev. Mr. David C. Trimble,
rector of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial
was in the Oakland cemetery.

DR. HENRY WHEELER MC COMAS Service for this
prominent Oakland physician were held from the Methodist Church
with Rev. W. S. Paterson, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev.
David C. Trimble, rector of the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
The service at the cemetery was in charge of Garrett Lodge No.
113, Knights of Pythias, of which he was a member.
For the past several months Dr. McComas had been confined to bed
at the home of his son, R. C. McComas, under care of nurses. He
was one of the oldest practicing physicians in Western Maryland.
He served as Mayor and councilman of Oakland, a member of the
State Senate, and for the past four years as a member and treasurer
of the State Conservation Commission, to which office he was appointed
in 1035 by former Governor Harry W. NICE. He was the son of the
late Dr. J. Lee and Ellen WHEELER MC COMAS, and was born February
12, 1865. After attending public schools in Oakland, the University
of West Virginia and his graduation from University of Maryland
Medical School in 1888, he came to Oakland and began the practice
of his profession. Dr. McComas was a charter member of Garrett
Lodge No. 113, Knights of Pythias, he was also founder and first
president of the Oakland Rotary Club.
He was survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie WEST MC COMAS; four children,
Mrs. Edward C. LAWRENCE, Mrs. Paul W. McINTIRE, R. C. McCOMAS
and Henry W. McCOMAS, all residents of Oakland.

CARL MC CLINTOCK, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.
F. McClintock was born July 24th, 1910, died Sept. 4th, 1935,
age 25 years, 1 month and 11 days. He was a patient at the Confluence
Hospital for one week with appendicitis. December 24th, 1930,
he married Miss Hazel HUFF of Frostburg.
Surviving: His wife, one daughter, Mary, his parents, three sisters
and two brothers, Mrs. Frederick SMITH, Mrs. Ralph BOWSER, Mrs.
Albert RICHTER, Luther and Everett and an aged grandmother. He
was confirmed in the English Lutheran Church of Cove on April

EDGAR G. MEYER, president of the National
Bank in Davis for about ten years, died at the home of a son,
H. A. MEYER. He was 68. He was a prominent insurance broker and
life-long resident of Davis. A native of Mullensburg, PA, he was
born March 23, 1885. His parents were the late Herman A. and Mollie
Jackson (POWELL) MEYER. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Surviving: His widow, Mrs. Gertie (HIVICK) MEYER, three sons,
H. A., Paul and Charles S. MEYER; four daughters, Mrs. Mary J.
MARSHALL, Washington; Mrs. Rose MEYER, Wheeling; Mrs. Katie DeWITT,
Morgantown, and Mrs. Zeta ROCKWOOD, Vallejo, CA; on brother, Frederick
J. MEYER, New York City; a sister, Miss Mary B. MEYER of Washington
and seven grandchildren.
Services were held at the Meyer home. Rev. A. B. Mann, pastor
of Davis Presbyterian Church, officiated and interment was in

BENJAMIN FRANK MICHAEL, 80, died Saturday,
January 22, at his home on National Highway, near Green Lantern
Inn. Death was due to advanced years and a paralytic stroke. Born
in Westernport, he was the son of the late David and Jane SIGLER
MICHAEL, the last of a family of 13 children.
Surviving are: his widow, Ella E. MICHAEL, two sons, Cecil and
Earl MICHAEL, one daughter, Mrs. John V. RICHARDSON, of Cumberland,
and three grandchildren, Frank, Ella Fern, and Charlotte Louise
RICHARDSON, also of Cumberland.
Services: Rev. D. R. Carder, Pastor of the Mt. Zion Methodist
Church. Funeral service was conducted at the home.

PHILIP MICHAEL- 4 months and 28 days, the
infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur MICHAEL, former residents of
Oakland, died at his home in Detroit, Michigan, December 26. The
remains were brought to Oakland December 28th where interment

ALICE E. MILLER, a lifelong resident, died
at her home. She was a daughter of the late Eli and Nancy MILLER.
Born in 1874 near Casselman, aged 61 years. She is survived by
a son, Bruce BENDER, of Grantsville; and by a sister, Mrs. Irvin
SHUEMAKER, a brother, Wilson W. MILLER, both of Grantsville. The
funeral will be held from the Springs Mennonite Church, of which
she was a member. Rev. M. B. Miller and Rev. G. D. Miller will
officiate. Burial will be in the Springs Cemetery by Undertaker
Winterberg.

AMANDA MILLER, died September 1. She was
66 years of age and the widow of the late John J. MILLER. Surviving
are three sons, Harvey MILLER, Cumberland, Earl MILLER, London,
Ohio, John MILLER, Grantsville, and one daughter, Mrs. Ada BEITZEL,
Bittinger. She leaves 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at St. Bethany Church of the Brethren
with Rev. C. E. Metzler officiating. William Winterberg, local
mortician, supervised interment in the adjoining cemetery.

CLARENCE C. MILLER, 58, died of a heart
attack at his home. He was born June 27, 1880, on the farm now
owned by Simon ORENDORF, a son of Christian and Catherine MILLER.
Forty years ago he married Catherine HAFT, of Cove. At one time
he was an undertaker, but mainly engaged in farming. For the past
seven years he had assisted Mrs. C. C. BEACHY on her farm near
Bittinger, and moved to Grantsville about a month ago. He was
an active member of the local Lutheran church and Rev. S. D. Sigler
conducted the services from Mrs. C. C. BEACHY'S home. Interment
was in the Grantsville cemetery.
Surviving are his wife and their three sons, Floyd, LaVale; Everett,
Keyser's Ridge; and Christian, at home. Three half-brothers, Arthur,
Akron, Ohio; John, Springfield, Ohio; and Harry, Manadier Ridge.

EMMANUEL J. MILLER, 49, son of Joni MILLER,
Oakland, and the late Fannie (MILLER) MILLER, died after being
struck by a van as he walked along State Route 96, in Londonderry
Twp. PA.
The Rev. MILLER was born March 15, 1945, in Wooster, Ohio. He
was the pastor of the LaVale Christian Center. He was ordained
by and was a member of the Lester Sumrall Evangelic Association/Feeding
the Hungry. He was on the board of Calvary Evangelistic Missions
in Nigeria and a member of Tri-State for Jesus.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his step-mother,
Martha MILLER, Oakland; his wife, Miriam (BEACHY) MILLER; three
sons, Harland MILLER, Hyndman, Darrell MILLER, Fort Worth, TX;
and James MILLER, Hyndman; four sisters, Betty PEACHY, Thomas,
OK; Barbara NISSLEY, Lancaster, PA; Mattie KAUFFMAN, Crooksville,
Ohio, and Fannie HOSTETLER, Winfield, PA; six brothers, Edward
MILLER and Robert MILLER, both of Grantsville, Andrew MILLER,
Sugarland, TX; Roy MILLER and Uriah MILLER, both of Swanton, and
Ivan MILLER, New Columbia, PA; and one granddaughter.
Friends were received at the Hafer Chapel of Hill Mortuary, LaVale,
MD. Memorial service will be conducted at the Maranatha Assembly
of God Church, Grantsville, with the Rev. Kevin Ferguson of the
Lester Sumrall Evangelic Association officiating.
Interment will be in the Springs Mennonite Cemetery.

MRS. FANNIE MAUST MILLER, 39, wife of Floyd
MILLER, near Grantsville, died at the Hazel McGilvery Hospital,
Meyersdale, PA. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel MAUST,
and is survived by her husband, nine children, Daniel Moses, Ida
Savilla, and Ivan Joel (twins) Barbara Matilda, Lewis Jonas, Jacob
Benedict, Catherine Leah, Allen Floyd and Fannie Miriam, one daughter,
Mary Elizabeth, preceded her in death about a year ago.
Services were held at the Amish Mennonite Church, near Grantsville,
with Bishop C. W. Bender and Shem Peachy, officiating. Interment
was in the Amish Cemetery.

his daughter, Mrs. John KAHL, near Accident. He was the son of
the late Phillip and Catherine (GOEHRINGER) MILLER, and a lifelong
resident of Garrett County.

and nine daughters, Mrs. Edwin GEORG, Mrs. John KAHL, Mrs. Frank

HARRY L. MILLER, a well known and highly
esteemed merchant of Oakland died at the Johns Hopkins hospital,
Baltimore. He was a native of Uniontown, PA, a son of the late
Jacob and Elizabeth BORING MILLER and came to Oakland about twenty-six
years ago and established a meat market business. He was a member
of the Garrett Lodge, No. 113, Knights ofo Pythias and a member
of the Rotary Club. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. G. W. Ache,
of Uniontown, PA and one nephew, George W. Ache, Jr. of McClellandtown,
PA. A brother and sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held from St. Matthews Episcopal church
with the Rev. H. K. Jones, officiating. Burial was in the Oakland
cemetery.

HARVEY H. MILLER, died of pneumonia at the
home of his son, William MILLER, Akron, Ohio, on Jan. 29. He was
born near Grantsville, Sept. 4, 1851. His parents were lifelong
residents of Garrett County and he had lived here all his life
until after the death of his wife. In 1926 he left to make his
home with his daughter and son in Chester, PA and Akron, Ohio.
On March 4, 1886, he married Elizabeth GINGERICH, also a native
of Garrett County, who passed away ten years ago; he is survived
by seven of the eight children born to this union; three daughers,
Mrs. Ed JENKINS, of Akron, OHIO; Mrs. Milton SHOEMAKER, Philadelphia;
and Mrs. Sherman BEACHY of Grantsville; by four sons, William,
Lewis and Fred MILLER, all of Akron, and Guernie MILLER of Philadelphia.
His son, Arthur, died sixteen years ago. Mr. Miller is also survived
by 22 grandchildren.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
His body was brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nevin MILLER
in Grantsville and funeral services were held from the Grantsville
Methodist Church with Rev. Ed. Walls, pastor of the Church of
the Brethren and Rev. Milton Miller of the Mennonite Church of
Springs, PA, officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville cemetery.

HENRY P. MILLER, died in Memorial Hospital
at Cumberland. He was the son of the late Phillip and Mary Miller
and was born at Cove, Md., 61 years ago, had he lived until March
16. He married Miss Virginia Bishop of Hoyes, MD, May 9, 1900.
Two daughters survive Mr. Miller, Mrs. Leroy Williams, St. Leonards,
MD; Mrs. Paul Bumer, Baltimore, MD and a son, W. Harold, this
place; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ringer, Wadsworth,
Ohio; Mrs. A. A. Glass, Cove, and a brother, A. W. Miller of Philadelphia,
PA.
Mr. Miller was the vice president f the First State Bank here
for the last eight years. He was active in Lutheran church work,
a staunch Republican and served on the Garrett County State Central
Committee, Board of Election Supervisor and he also served two
terms as county commissioner. He was manager of the Stone House
Farm until February. He was a charter member of the Grantsville
Fair Association.
Services will be held at the home of his son, Harold Miller, the
Rev. S. D. Sigler will officiate and interment will be in the
Grantsville cemetery.

LAURA SELBY MILLER, widow of the late Elias
MILLER, who died at Mt. Lake Park on Monday, were conducted from
the Bolden Funeral Home, Oakland, with the Rev. J. C. Foster,
pastor of the U. B. Church, Mt. Lake Park, officiating. Interment
was in the Paradise Church cemetery.
Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late Richard and Rebecca SELBY
and was born in the county October 22, 1845, making her age 98.
She was a member of the Methodist church. She is survived by two
daughters, one brother, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

MARY CATHERINE MILLER, died Oct 18, at the
home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. MOSSER, with whom she
lived since the death of her husband nineteen years ago.
She was born near Mt. Pleasant, PA, June 24, 1862, a daughter
of the late James and Sarah COFFMAN. She married Samuel F. MILLER
March 11, 1880. To this union two sons were born, one son preceded
her in death. Surviving are Ira C. MILLER, Mrs. George MARTIN,
Mrs. Hervey ROTH, Mrs. Ray MOSSER and six grandchildren, four
great grandchildren, all of Oakland, one sister, Mrs. W. O. BARKLEY,
Acme, PA.
Funeral services were conducted at the Maple Spring Church of
the Brethren of which she was a member, with Rev. Emra Fike and
Rev. Ezra Fike.

Phyllis E. Miller
AVILTON - Phyllis Eileen MILLER, of 1878 Blue Lick Road, Avilton,
died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland
Born Jan. 24, 1924, in New Germany, she was the daughter of
the late Gorman JENKINS and Grace (BROADWATER) Jenkins Long.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Otis Odell JENKINS,
and one sister, Mary Martha COSGROVE.
Mrs. MILLER was a homemaker and retired as secretary and treasurer
of Miller's Welding Services. She was famous for her custard
and apple pies and making net balls and giving them away. Also,
she was a member of the Frostburg Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Darius Green MILLER,
whom she married on May 8, 1943. Also surviving are three sons,
Eugene MILLER, Gerald MILLER, and Ray MILLER, all of Avilton;
one daughter Barbara CREEKMORE-WILSON, Avilton; two brothers,
Paul JENKINS, Frostburg, Wayne JENKINS, Williamsport; and eight
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, PA,
179 Miller St., Grantsville, Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to
9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home, Sunday at
1 p.m., with the Rev. Dick Thomas officiating. Interment will
be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
MISS SAVANNA MILLER, 57, died suddenly at
the home of her sister, Mrs. Louise OESTER, Springs, PA. She was
the daughter of the late Daniel P. and Amelia EICHORN MILLER and
was a school teacher before retiring three years ago. She was
a life long member of this community and a member of the Mennonite
church.
Surviving are two brothers, Norbert MILLER and Frederick MILLER,
both of Salisbury, PA.
Service will be at the Springs Mennonite Church with interment
in the Springs cemetery.

SIMON S. MILLER, died December 8, at the
Hazel McGilvery Hospital in Meyersdale. He suffered from Diabetes.
He was born in Somerset County on March 3, 1862 and was 75 years
old. He was a son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (SWARTZWELDER)
MILLER. He is survived by his wife, Lydia (BEACHY) MILLER, who
prior to their marriage lived in Aurora, WV. Also surviving are
two daughters, Mrs. Mark BENDER, of Salisbury, PA and Mrs. Olen
R. BENDER, at home; four sons, Ansel and Claude at home, Allen
of Meyersdale and Ernest MILLER of Lancaster, PA, and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Maple Glen Amish Church with
Rev. Jonas B. MILLER, local Pastor and Bishop M. S. Zehr, of Pigeon,
Michigan, officiating. Interment was in the Church cemetery under
the direction of W. C. Price, Mortician of Salisbury, PA.

WILSON E. MILLER died suddenly, apparent
victim of an acute heart attack. He was born in Grantsville December
7, 1876, the son of the late Eli and Nancy MILLER, and was aged
61 years, 7 months. He lived in the Grantsville area all his life
and engaged in farming. In August 1899 he married Lydia WISSEMAN,
who, with the following children survives him: Sherman, Lawrence,
Martin, Raymond and Ivan MILLER, William, Virginia and Leona MILLER,
Mrs. W. T. RILEY and Mrs. Albert H. JONES. One sister, Mrs. Irvin
SHUMAKER, of Grantsville, and three grandchildren also survive
him. He was a member of the Casselman Mennonite Church from which

DEWITT MINOR, 79, a resident of this county
for about fifty years, dropped dead at his home near Deer Park.
He is survived by one son, Edward and two daughters, Lillian and
Maude; three sisters, Mrs. Rachel MAYLE, of Brilint, Ohio, Mrs.
L. HADDIX of Fairmont, W. Va., and Mrs. M. CROSTON of Simpson,
W. Va. Three grandchildren also survive. Rev. David C. Trimble
will officiate at the service. Interment will be made in the Deer
Park cemetery.

MOATS, HOMER J.
Homer J. MOATS, 74, Piketon, Ohio, died Sunday at the Pike Community
Hospital, Waverly, Ohio. Born Dec. 27, 1921, in Hutton, he was
a son of the late Marshall MOATS, Sr. and Eva (PIFFER) MOATS.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are one
sister, Mary GERROME, Avon Lake, Ohio, and two brothers, Marshall
MOATS. Jr., Hagerstown, and George MOATS, Miami, Fla. The Stewart
Funeral Home in Oakland, was in charge of arrangements. A private
interment took place this week in the Oakland Cemetery. A memorial

Lawrence Albert MOATS, 16 month old son of Mrs. Nettie MOATS,
near Crellin, MD. was accidently drowned on Sunday, when he fell
into a tub of water. When found the child was dead. Funeral Services

MOON, FRANK W.
Frank W. MOON, 65, died Friday in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland,
where he had been a patient for the past ten days. He was born
in Garrett County on January 23, 1885, a son of the late Garrett
W. and Jane Lee MOON and had lived in this county most of his
life, for the past two years residing near Kitmiller. He was a
member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Piedmont, W. VA. Surviving
are three brothers Asa C. MOON, Deer Park; Allan A. MOON, Mt.
Park Lake and George MOON, Cumberland. Funeral services were held
on Sunday afternoon from the United Brethren Church in Loch Lynn
conducted by the Rev. George W. Simpson. Interment was in the
Joe Harvey Cemetery in Bethlehem.

Funeral rites for former Judge of the Orphans' Court, J. Thomas
MOON, 73, who died at his home last Thursday , near Bethlehem,
were held Saturday with Rev. E. C. Crites, officiating. Judge
MOON served twelve years as an Orphans' Court Judge. He was a
member of the M. E. Church of Bethlehem. Surviving are his widow
and four children; Mrs. George HARVEY and Boyd MOON, Bethlehem;

Mrs. Nellie MOON, 83, widow of the late Abraham MOON died at her
home in Loch Lynn Heights Wednesday evening following an illness
of several months. She is survived by nine children. Funeral services
will be held Saturday at one o'clock from the Methodist Church,
Mt. Lake Park, with Rev. I. S. MIDDAUGH, pastor of the church
officiating. Burial will be made in the Oak Grove Cemetery near

Mrs Penelope Catherine MOON was born in Grant County, West Virginia,
near Bayard on November 3, 1851. She departed this life at her
home in Mt. Lake Park, MD, on February 27, 1935 Her age was 83
years, 3 months and 26 days. Her husband, Mr. Abraham MOON, preceded
her in death on October 28, 1925. She is survived by two daughters,
six sons, twenty-one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Her only surviving brother, Dr. D. P. Hendrickson, lives in Petersburg,
W. VA. She was married at the age of 22 and moved to Oak Grove,
near Gorman, MD. The remainder of her life was spent in Garrett
County, MD. Being converted at the age of 16, she joined the United
Brethern Church until thirty-eight years ago when she transferred
her membership to the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mb

Roy Emory MOON
Funeral services for Roy Emory MOON, 55, who was found dead in
his bed, at the home of his brother, Elza G. MOON, Mt. Lake Park,
on Sunday morning, were conducted Tuesday afternoon from St. John's
Lutheran Church, Red House, with the Rev.O. P. FIKE, pastor of
the Church of the Brethren, Mt. Lake Park, officiating. Interment
was in the Red House Cemetery. He was the son of the late John
T. and Emma (STAHL) MOON and was born at Sunnyside on October
26, 1886. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and
the Red House Lutheran Church.
He was not married. Survivors are: Harry C. MOON, Sunnyside; Elza
G. MOON, Mt. Lake Park; Mrs. Ida SACHS, Baltimore; Mrs. Nellie
WINTERS, Oakland; and Mrs. Saville SANDERS, Sunnyside. mb

Mrs. Dorothy (IMMAN) MOORE died in Memorial Hospital on Thursday,
June 4th of pneumonia. She was age 26 years. Four of the MOORE
children, including a week old baby, are patients at the Memorial
Hospital at the present time, all pneumonia victims.
Surviving are her husband, Dallas MOORE, five sons, Earl, Clyde,
Roy, Gerald and one week old baby. Also seven sisters and three
brothers survive: Mrs. Nora UHLERY, Tunnelton, W. VA., Mrs. Carrie
PETERSON, Bayard, W. VA., Mr. Ethel MOON, Tunnelton, W. VA., Mrs.
Lucy FUNKHOUSER, Altamont, MD, Mrs. Ada RAY, Glade Run, MD, and
Hilda IMMAN of Altamont, Harry and Thomas of Baltimore and Richard
of Loch Lynn, MD. Funeral services were conducted from the White
Church on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. WAKEFIELD officiated.

Samuel Reese MOORE died at his home at Deer Park, Sunday morning,
May 17th, of typhoid Fever. Funeral services were conducted from
the home on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. I. S. MIDDAUGH officiated

Surviving are: His widow, the former, Hazel CARR, Mr. and Mrs.
John B. MOORE, his parents, and the following sisters and brothers:

Elk Garden, W.Va. - Frank Elwood MORELAND Sr., 83, of Point Marion,
PA., formerly of Elk Garden, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Ruby
Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. Born March 11, 1914, in Gleason,
he was a son of the late Joseph and Ollie Mae (EVERSOLE) MORELAND.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Samuel L. MORELAND.
Mr. MORELAND was a retired coal miner. Surviving are his wife,
Rena V. (DAVIS) MORELAND, Elk Garden: eight sons, Edward and wife
Ruth, Crystal, Pa., Harry K. and wife Mildred, Elk Garden, Phillip
and wife Sandy, Reedsville, Frank and wife Linda, Elk Garden,
Michael, Elk Garden, Charles and wife Yvonne, Dilliner, Pa., Elwood
and wife Linda, Smithfield, Pa., Joseph and wife Kathleen, New
Geneva, Pa.; four daughters, Icolene SHILLINGBURG, Newport News,
Va., Lyndol SHILLINGBURG and husband Roy K., Elk Garden, Marcia
LUCAS and husband William, Kitzmiller, Md., and Lois SADLER, Gans,
Pa.; one brother Eugene MORLEAND, Mount Storm, who is the last
surviving member of the immediate family; 42 grandchildren' 56
great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the David A.
Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and
on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be
held at the Elk Garden Church of God on Saturday at noon, with
the Rev. Byron Mayberry and the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating.
Interment will be in Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden. Bt
MORELAND, JAMES EDWARD
James Edward MORELAND, a well known farmer of this county for
many years was born in Hampshire County, West Virginia, Aug. 22,
1854, and passed away at his home in Loch Lynn, Nov. 4, 1934.
Mr. MORELAND'S first wife, who died in 1929, was Sarah C. LISH
and they had twelve children, seven of whom survive. They are
Mrs. J. W. LOWER and Mrs. Arthur HARVEY, of Mt. Lake Park, Mrs.
Scott ROTRUCK, Mt. Storm, W. Va., Mrs. Harvey SCHAEFFER, of Washington,
D.C., Mrs. Edith FOGLEPOLE, Wells, Pa., and two sons, Dorse and
Ernest of near Gorman. In addition to these children, Mr. MORELAND
leaves his second wife Mrs. Eulalie E. MORELAND, twenty-seven
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were
held at the U.B. Church in Loch Lynn, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock with six grandsons acting as pallbearers, and interment
in the cemetery on Moreland farm near Gorman. Bt
MORGAN, CECELIA E.
Cecelia Elizabeth MORGAN, 86, Williamsport, died Friday, April
11, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport. Born July
3, 1910, in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late Arthur LAWTON,
Sr. and Bessie (LITTMAN) LAWTON. She was employed as a secretary
for the Washington County Board of Education until her retirement
in 1976. She was previously employed by Potomac Edison. She was
a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Williamsport, and
the Retired Teachers Association. She volunteered her time with
the American Red Cross and the Washington County Hospital. Survivors
include one sister, Virginia LAWTON, Washington, D.C.; and one
brother, John LAWTON, Annapolis. There was no public viewing.
A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, April 15, at St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Mark A. Sandell officiating. Interment
will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The family suggests
that memorials take the form of contributions to St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, 10813 Donelson Drive, Williamsport, MD 21795.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Osborne Funeral Home,

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary MORGAN, 77, who died at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph BOWSER, were held Monday afternoon from
State Line Methodist Church with Rev. Virgil R. Gillum, officiating.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Amos BOWSER, State Line,
Pa.; and Mrs. Bertha WARD, Confluence, Pa.; one sister Mrs. Nora
STERLING of Friendsville, and one brother, Isaac TURNEY, State
Line, Pa. Interment was in the Hyleman Cemetery.

MORRIS, WILLIAM N, 64, Waynesboro, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, at the Augusta Medical Center, Fisherville, Va. Born Oct. 19, 1931, in Uffington, W. Va., he was the son of the late Hays and Fannie (JACOBS) MORRIS. He was a retired manufacturing superintendent for GHA in Florida. He was a graduate of Morgantown (W.Va.) High School. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Johnson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Uffington; a member of Romeo Lodge 41, F&AM, Romeo, Mich.; Scottish Rite bodies of Detroit, Mich.; and Egypt Temple of the Shrine, Tampa, Fla. Surviving are his wife; Agnes M. (BOLYARD) MORRIS; two sons, James MORRIS, Pittsford, N.Y., and Douglas MORRIS, Herndon, VA. Two sisters, Elva ORNICK, Morgantown, and Barbara KISSLER, Columbus, Ohio; and six grandchildren. Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Dec. 13, with the Rev. Paul Poland officiating. MORRISON, J.C.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 Sunday morning from the home
of a daughter, Mrs. L.E. HOOD, of Nutter Fort, for J. C. MORRISON,
76, who died Wednesday evening at 5:23 o'clock of injuries received
two days before when he fell from the roof of his home in Akron,
Ohio, while doing repair work. The Rev. J. H. Funk conducted the
funeral services and burial will be made in Greenlawn cemetery.
Mr. MORRISON was born in Buckhannon, W. Va., but has resided in
Akron, Ohio, for the past several years. His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth
MORRISON died in July. Surviving relatives are two brothers, W.
MORRISON and B. MORRISON, four daughters, Mrs. W.A. GONDER, Oakland,
Md., Mrs. L.E. HOOD of Netter Fort, Mrs. Ray SATTERFIELD, Akron,
Ohio and one son, John MORRISON, of Norwood. Also surviving are
twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

MORROW, RUTHVAN W., JR.
Ruthvan W. MORROW Jr., a retired minister and educator in Garrett
County schools, and a well-known professional photographer, died
Sunday, Aug, 31, 1997, in Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland,
at the age of 83. Born March 13, 1914, in Shepherdstown, W. Va.,
he was a son of the late Ruthvan W. MORROW Sr. and Louise (LICKLIDER)
MORROW. A resident of Oakland, Mr. Morrow was also a member of
the Faith United Methodist Church, Cranesville, W. Va. He is survived
by his wife, Martha (MYERS) MORROW; two sons, Dale W. MORROW,
Severn, and William R. MORROW, Lancaster, Ky.; one daughter, Dianne
V. RICE, Oakland; two brothers, Edward MORROW, Martinsburg, W.
Va., and Henry MORROW, Shepherdstown; one sister, Elizabeth BUSEY,
Martinsburg: 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. MORROW
donated his body to the West Virginia Human Gift Registry. A memorial
service will be conducted at Faith United Methodist Church on
Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Stackpole officiating.

MOWBRY
In the passing of Mrs. Ella M MOWBRAY, wife of Rev. E. T. MOWBRY,
the Park has lost another summer resident. And while she had not
been coming here many years, Mrs. MOWBRAY had made numerous friends
and will be missed. After several months illness Mrs. MOWBRAY
died Saturday morning, and was buried Tuesday afternoon, services
being held in St. Mark's M. E. Church, and interment in Mt. Olive
Cemetery. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son and a
daughter.

MURER, CORA WARNICK
Funeral services for Mrs. Jas. MURER, 63, were conducted from
her home at Catonsville, last Monday afternoon, with the Rev.
Keples, officiating. Mrs. MURER, was the former Miss Cora WARNICK,
a former resident of near Grantsville, Garrett County. She was
a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. O. WARNICK, of near
here, surviving besides her husband is one daughter, Kathryn,
Washington, D.C. and one son, Allen, Catonsville, Md. Five sisters
and one brother also survive.

MURPHY, Charles - Mr. Charles MURPHY, aged
68 years, died at the home of Mr. John FULMER, Oct 19th.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning with interment
in the WILSON Cemetery, Rev. W.S. PATTERSON, officiating.
Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Tena MURPHY, a daughter, Mrs. Marie
