CHARLES HAMILTON JENKINS
Charles Hamilton JENKINS died very suddenly about 10:00 o'clock
Saturday night, October 1st, at his home near New Germany. The
cause of his death was given as coronary thrombosis, commonly
known as a blood clot in the heart. Mr. JENKINS had suffered a
heart attack in the afternoon but retired early and seemed to
be resting comfortably. When his sister looked in upon him a short
time later, however, she found he had passed away.
Mr. JENKINS was born March 12, 1875, a son of the late William
and Louisa (DURST) JENKINS. He had lived in Garrett County all
his life. He was never married and for the last thirty years had
made his home with his sister, Jennie JENKINS in the New Germany
section where he engaged in farming. He was held in the highest
esteem by all who knew him. Mr. JENKINS is survived by one brother,
Ralph JENKINS, New Germany, and three sisters, Jennie JENKINS,
at home, Mrs. Sam BRENNEMAN, Bittinger, and Mrs. Ida GALLOWAY,
Smithfield, Pa. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, October
4th, at 10;30, from the New Germany Methodist Church, of which
he was a life-long member. Rev. D. R. Carder officiated. William
Winterburg local mortician, supervising interment in the adjoining
cemetery.

EDWARD O. JENKINS
Edward O. JENKINS, 92, of Grantsville, died Monday, February 1`3,
1989, at his residence. Born February 12, 1897, he was the son
of the late Arnold and Mary (DIEFENBACH) JENKINS.
Mr. JENKINS was a retired maintenance man for the Ohio school
system in Columbus. He was a member of the Cherry Grove Church
of the Brethren. His wife, Minta (MILLER) JENKINS, died Decebmer
2, 1982.
He is survived by six sons, Robert JENKINS, Akron, Ohio; Edward
O. JENKINS, Jr., Mogadore, Ohio; William Donald JENKINS, Baltimore;
James JENKINS, Houston, Texas; Jack JENKINS, Naples, Fla.; Harold
JENKINS, Pittsburgh, Pa.; two daughters, Lois DURST, Grantsville;
and Pat WALKER, Mogadore, Ohio; one sister, Cora CREIGHTON, Phoenix,
Ariz.; eight grandchildren and several great grand- children.
Services were conducted at the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethran
by the Rev. Earl Harper. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.
Gorman Gideon JENKINS - Gorman Gideon JENKINS succumbed at 5:00 o'clock
Friday morning, September 17th, as a result of burns received
in a very tragic accident. The accident occurred Wednesday morning,
September 15th, while Mr. Jenkins was working in a shack near
a small mine on the Asa DURST farm. As he was sharpening some
tools, a spark fell into a bag of blasting powder on the floor.
The explosion which followed showered Mr. JENKINS with fire and
left the building ablaze. He was able to escape from the burning
building and extinguished his flaming clothing by rolling on the
grass. However, not before he had been seriously burned about
the face, hands, and body. He had scarcely escaped from the building
when a second explosion blew the shack to bits. In spite of his
painful injury, Mr. JENKINS drove his car to the home of an uncle,
Ralph JENKINS, a few miles away. Here he was given first aid and
immediately rushed to the Hazel McGilvery Hospital in Meyersdale.
All efforts to save his life proved futile, however, and death
followed.
Gorman JENKINS was born near his late home, about three miles
east of Grantsville, on July 22nd, 1899, and was 38 years of age
at the time of his demise. He was a son of Mrs. Mary (JENKINS)
Keener, now of Akron, O., and the late Arnold J. JENKINS. He had
engaged in farming and was also a veteran miner. Before opening
the mine where he met his death, he was employed at the Bowman
Nine on Shade Run. On November 11, 1922, he was married to Miss
Grace Broadwater, of New Germany. Five children were born to them,
who, with their mother, survive. They are Phyllis, Paul, Mary
Martha, Otis Odell, and Wayne. Also surviving are his mother,
Mrs. Mary KEENER, and the following brothers and sisters: John,
Elbert, and Cora JENKINS, of Cleveland, O.: Mrs. Lulu BLAND, William
and Edward JENKINS, of Akron, O.; Fred JENKINS, Sewell, O.: and
Mrs. Althea WADSWORTH, of Detroit, Mich.
Mr. JENKINS was a member of the New Germany Reformed Church. Funeral
services were held at 2:00 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, in the Grantsville
Lutheran Church with Rev. A. M. Wright, of Salisbury officiating.
He was assisted by Rev. S. D. Sigler, local pastor. The fact that
during his lifetime Mr. JENKINS made and kept many friends was
evident by the host of them who came to pay their last respects.
The church was filled to overflowing. The body was carried to
its final resting place in the Grantsville Cemetery by the following
pallbearers: Sylvan DURST, William WARNICK, William DURST, Morris
Ellsworth BEACHY and Dewey YOMMER. William Winterburg, local undertaker,
was in charge of arrangements.
Relatives from a distance who were here to attend the funeral
were: Mr. and Mrs. Williams WADSWORTH, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Mary
KEENER, Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt BLAND, George PATTON, Miss Ruth FOLK
and Mr. and Mrs. Edward JENKINS and two children of Akron, O.,
Mr. and Mrs. John JENKINS, Elbert and Cora JENKINS, Cleveland,
O., Mr. and Mrs. William HARBAUGH, Connellsville, Pa., William
Beitzel, Cumberland, Md., Frank Broadwater, Berlin, Pa., Mr. and
Mrs. Fred JENKINS, William JENKINS, Sewell, O., and Mrs. BECKET,
McKeesport, Pa.
JACOB ARNOLD JENKINS
Jacob Arnold JENKINS died very suddently at 5 a. m. Thursday,
August 6, at his home three miles south of Grantsville, Mr. JENKINS
had been in good health, and able to attend the duties of his
farm. He awoke very sick and Dr. N. R. Davis was called but death
came within an hour. Mr. JENKINS was born in Garrett county, March,
1865, and was married to Miss Mary DIFFENBACH August 28, 1887.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: Frederick,
Edward, William, Elbert, and Mrs. D. T. BLAND, all of Akron, Ohio;
John and Althea, of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Thomas LOWRY, Uniontown,
Pa., and Gorman, near home; also two brothers, Charles and Ralph,
and two sisters, Miss Jennie JENKINS of New Germany, Md., and
Mrs. Samuel BRENNEMAN of Bittinger, Md. Mr. JENKINS was a faithful
member of the Grantsville Lutheran church at which place the funeral
was held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon with interment in
the Grantsville cemetery.

John J. Jenkins
FROSTBURG - John Jack Jenkins, 74, Warren, Ohio, died there April
1, 1964.
Born in Grantsville, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Arnold Jenkins.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Rose Jenkins, two brothers,
Edward and Thomas Jenkins, and two sisters,
Cora Creighton, and Lulu Bland, all of Ohio and a number of nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Services and interment will take place in Warren.
MRS. RALPH JENKINS
Grantsville - Mrs. Anna Viola JENKINS, 72, wife of Ralph JENKINS,
died here yesterday at the home of a son, Robert JENKINS. She
was born in New Germany, a daughter of the late Peter J. and Isabelle
(BROADWATER) STEPHENS. Mrs. JENKINS had been in ill-health the
past year.
Surviving, in addition to her husband and son, are four daughters,
Mrs. Edna WAMPLER, Frostburg; Mrs. Ruth LIVENGOOD, Swanton; Mrs.
Alty HOUSEL, Cumberland; and Mrs. Lula SMITH, Winchester, Va.;
two other sons, Roy JENKINS, Frostburg; and Ray JENKINS, also
of here; four sisters, Mrs. Susan MILLER and Mrs. Minnie WILEY,
both of Frostburg; Mrs. Ida PLATTER, Addison, and Mrs. Laura BROADWATER,
Avilton; three brothers, James STEPHENS, also of here; Frank STEPHENS,
Westernport;
and Clarence STEPHENS, Bittinger, 20 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services were conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.in Trinity Reformed
Church, New Germany, where Mrs. JENKINS was a member more than
50 years. Rev. Paul Westcoat, pastor, officiated and interment
was in the church cemetery.

MISS REBECCA JENKINS
Miss Rebecca Jane JENKINS, 75, of New Germany, died at 1 o'clock
yesterday afternoon, May 24, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
DURST. She had been bedfast for three months.
Miss JENKINS was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William JENKINS
and was a lifelong member of Trinity Reformed church, New Germany.
Surviving are one brother, Ralph JENKINS, New Germany; two sisters,
Mrs. Sarah BRENNEMAN, Bittinger; and Mrs. L. J. GALLOWAY, Smithfield,
Pa.
Funeral services were held at the Trinity Reformed Church of New
Germany with Rev. Ira Moon officiating. Interment was in the church
cemetery.

ROBERT S. JENKINS
GRANTSVILLE - Robert Stephen JENKINS, 71, of 10192 New Germany
Road, Grantsville, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at Sacred Heart
Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 25, 1925, he was a son of the late Ralph and Anna (STEPHEN)
JENKINS.
Mr. JENKINS was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where
he served as a deacon and elder, and was a memberof the Consistory.
Surviving are his wife, Leota G. (WITT) JENKINS; two sons, Thomas
D. JENKINS and wife Kathy, Grantsville; and Ralph W. JENKINS and
wife Catherine Ann, Lonaconing; a daughter, Nancy L. PUGH and
husband William, Waco, Texas; a brother Ray JENKINS, Grantsville;
two sisters, Alcy HOUSEL, Potomac Park, and Lula SMITH, Winchester,
VA.; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren;
and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville,
on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m.
Services will be conducted at Trinity United Church of Christ
on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Brown officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Trinity Church Cemetery.
Stephen O. Jenkins
Stephen Odell Jenkins, 20, of Bowman's Addition and formerly of
LaVale, was dead on arrival at Sacred Heart Hospital early yesterday
morning. The accident occured at the intersection of Valley Road
and Knob Road.
Born in this city, he was a son of Odell Jenkins, Frostburg, and
Mrs. Ann T. (Thomas) Jenkins, 1218 National Highway, LaVale.
An employee of Stroehman Brothers Bakery, he worked in the thrift
store as a checker and clerk. He was a member of Local 453 Teamsters
Union.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother,
Mrs. Grace Long, Frostburg; a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Cook, Baltimore,
and a brother, Bryan Jenkins, LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence,
today and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home with the Rev. George
Wehler officiating. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions
to the Baltimore City Hospital Burn Unit.

Mr. William JENKINS departed this life at his home near
Grantsville, Md., March 17, 1899. He was born Dec. 2, 1843. He
was a faithful member of the M. E. church. His funeral was conducted
by his pastor, Rev. E. P. Idleman, from the M. E. Church at New
Germany.
NEW GERMANY
The funerals of Mrs. Louisa JENKINS and Mrs. Jennie SWAUGER occurred
at this place on Sunday. Both ladies were quite aged. Large numbers
of friends and relatives were in attendance at both services.
George WILT and Howard MILLER of Mountain Lake Park, attended
the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. JENKINS on Sunday.
