Gorman Gideon JENKINS - Gorman Gideon JENKINS succumbed at 5:00 o'clock Friday morning, September 17th, as a result of burns received in a very tragic accident. The accident occurred Wednesday morning, September 15th, while Mr. Jenkins was working in a shack near a small mine on the Asa DURST farm. As he was sharpening some tools, a spark fell into a bag of blasting powder on the floor. The explosion which followed showered Mr. JENKINS with fire and left the building ablaze. He was able to escape from the burning building and extinguished his flaming clothing by rolling on the grass. However, not before he had been seriously burned about the face, hands, and body. He had scarcely escaped from the building when a second explosion blew the shack to bits. In spite of his painful injury, Mr. JENKINS drove his car to the home of an uncle, Ralph JENKINS, a few miles away. Here he was given first aid and immediately rushed to the Hazel McGilvery Hospital in Meyersdale. All efforts to save his life proved futile, however, and death followed.

Wright, of Salisbury officiating. He was assisted by Rev. S. D. Sigler, local pastor. The fact that during his lifetime Mr. JENKINS made and kept many friends was evident by the host of them who came to pay their last respects. The church was filled to overflowing. The body was carried to its final resting place in the Grantsville Cemetery by the following pallbearers: Sylvan DURST, William WARNICK, William DURST, Morris Ellsworth BEACHY and Dewey YOMMER.
