The family graveyard near George Washington's stockade site at LittleMeadows, at the foot of Meadow Mountain, is probably the burying place of Braddock's soldiers and of many travelers over the old National road, but their graves are unmarked. In 1851 members of the family built a stone wall around some of the graves and erected a respectable monument, which listed the members of the Tomlinson family. When Mr. Whict owned the house in 1967-68, he called and told Randall Kahl that in the process of having the fireplace restored, he found Mrs. Tomlinson's marker under the hearthstone, and was going to return it to the cemetery. We did not return to copy the names. The above list is from Jacob Brown, April 1895.

***My comments on this cemetery: General Braddock and his troups camped at this site, Little Meadows, in June of 1755. They were marching towards Fort Pitt/Fort Duquesne via the Monongahela River in Pennsylvania, where they planned to run off the French and Indians from this fort which is now Pittsburgh, Pa. George Washington was an officer with the Virginia troops and fell ill at this Little Meadows campsite where he was left to rest for a few days. He finally was able to rejoin the forces on the day of their defeat on a tributary of the Monongahela very near Fort Pitt/Duquesne. General Braddock and many of his men died in the battle.  George Washington returned to Fort Cumberland with some of the survivors. This was the second battle of the French and Indian War.
